As we continue on our journey through the Lenten wilderness, follow Jesus as he lives his 40 days in the desert. Be open to what emotions today’s illustration invokes for you, what details catch your eye, and consider why you might be affected by it in this way.

Then, to go deeper, if it’s helpful, contemplate each of the following questions, allowing time to fully answer each one:

A mirage or something to sustain. Is Jesus really seeing that apple? Or does he just wish he were? Why an apple? Are his temptations already beginning? Is it sometimes hard to separate our temptations from our needs – our wants from our musts? How do we decide? Are some temptations worse than others? If so, what makes them more or less troubling? What do you think God thinks of our temptations? How are your needs being fulfilled so you can Never Give Up? Decide today to slay one temptation that is an issue for you . . . and enjoy an apple as a snack as you do.
