Entering the Marriage Scene

A video-based pre-marital workshop for Nearly-Weds…

What is this workshop?

This workshop is designed to have group discussions and activities, coupled with ‘date night’ video ‘homework,’ that will help you explore marriage issues from a Christian perspective, giving you an excellent start in this new journey doing life together.

Why take this workshop?

Marriage is a wonderful blessing AND also takes a lot of work to make it meaningful, life-giving and mutually beneficial. Discussing the hard topics beforehand will help set a strong foundation on which to build the new relationship marriage creates and will help give a basis on which the relationship can grow and change into your future together.

Open to all people.

This marriage prep course is open to all people. Anyone who is looking towards marriage (first marriages, marriage after divorce, having been widowed, after having lived together, couples of all sexual orientation) – your marriage is a new relationship that will benefit from the pre-marital discussions you will share together.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails."

~ 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a ~

Topics to be Discussed

Facilitators

Rev. Mark Marshall

Rev. Mark began his career in teaching – five years teaching primary and junior music and three years teaching Kindergarten (yes, you read that correctly)! After answering the call to ministry, he received his M.Div. from Emmanuel College in Toronto while serving as a student minister to Westminster United Church in Thamesford. After his ordination in 2011, Mark was thrilled to be able to stay at Westminster, the church he loves. Mark loves theatre, movies, music and engaging worship. He has been married to his best friend, Cheryl, since 1995. They have eight children and usually have another three or four foster children (yes, you read that correctly, too!) some still home and some moved on.

Catherine Cannon

Catherine has had a lifetime of teaching, mentoring and guiding. She started teaching music lessons at age 16 and has run a successful music studio teaching piano and singing ever since. When she was 35 she enrolled in a sociology degree at UWO. She also spent seven years as a lecturer for Weight Watchers, counselling and motivating people. In 2008 she found her true calling as a Grief Edu-Therapy Specialist ® coaching people how to move beyond the pain of grief. Catherine recently wrote a book explaining her philosophies on life called Old Wives. This marriage prep workshop feels like a natural progression in this journey of teaching and coaching. Catherine has been married since 1972.  She and her husband are very proud of their two children and their partners, and their five adored grandchildren.
